   Update!! 6/07/2001

Here is a

cost list of parts so far for the conversion.

Bought a new Holley 600 double pumper 4776-5 and am in the process of jetting it. It came stock with 66H/73H and was running way lean. Going to try to go back to the dyno shop and check the jetting vs. HP ------------------- Well got off the Dyno on Sat. and I'm getting 202hp to the ground. I'm not too happy with that but we did find a few problems. 1.) The secondaries are not opening up at WOT. 2.) Had to disconnect the vacume advance on the dist due to WAY too much advance (60deg@3000rpm) Thats about it so far. This week going to get a new Holley 650DP, and looking into GM Performance's HOT cam for the ZZ3 + 4 motors and new springs.

4/3/2001 After playing around with the timing and jetting of the carb I have it down to 14.03@108mph with my Gtech Pro.
I had to back off on the top end due to road conditions (dips). I'm sure another 1/2 sec min will be removed with testing at LACR. I'm hoping to see 12's with this setup before NOS or a blower. Can't wait to have BOTH!!!! 1/30/2001 Holy cow Batman, Well I got the new CSI High Performance HEI dist on the car yesterday and it made all the differance in the word. The Mallory Unilite is going the the dumpster where it belongs. I took the car for a run (open chamber) and it got my heart pumping. I did not even get it full throttle!!!! Rolling about 10mph in 1st gunned it and ran it up to aroud 4k on the 700R4 and shifted into 2nd and wham. Nice long churp and kept it going for a sec or 2 then backed off. Whew.. That was fun.. That car is almost done. $5000.00 later on the conversion I need to take a break.. NAW..... It's time to do my 1967 Mustang coup.. hehe I'll take that slower as money it tighter... But going to build a Boss 302 for it. It already has a 302 and a 3spd auto now. Body is mint and int is flawless. Wifes car.. She want's it to keep up with the 240Z at Pomona. So it's going to get a super charger and Nitrous... It will still fall behind.. hehe I'm going to post more pics of the 240Z conversion tomarow. 12/08/2000 All is almost done, I fired up the "z" and it sounds very good. It's running very rich so I shut it down after about 1 min. It also did not have any fans on the radiator. Today I went to Scottsfans and bought a 14" and a 10" Spal Advanced Technologies fan set. These should pull about 2500cfm. I am keeping my 3 core HD 260Z rad. If there are any problems i can still use these fans on a Griffin radiator.

11/27/00 All is looking good to fire the "Z" up this comming weekend! The drive shaft will be done Weds, I'll install it Friday. All I have left to do is hook up the electrical for the Mallory electronic dist. Simple job. I'm going to drain the gas tank and flush it out. Bought a brand new ign switch. No more having to use a screw driver!!! A good thing!! 11/14/00 I had to pull the trans/motor a few more times, the trans cooler lines were rubbing and also the filler tube was hitting the side of the hub. After some creative pounding with a hammer that was solved. I also installed the JTR trans bracket, This was a challange. I was hammering for a while and getting nowhere so I grabbed my sawsall and cut 2 notches for the bracket then pounded up and then was able to get the bracket to fit well! So as of today the motor and trans is now installed!!!!!! I called Cannon Eng (Drive shaft place) and going to drop off the measurement for the driveshaft. I hope to have that early next week. Tomarrow I'm going to hook up all electrical shifter cables, ect. 11/02/00 All is looking good for installing the motor/trans this weekend. Engine area is all painted, wiring is ready, break lines rerouted. Today I bolted the 700R4 to the Vortec, had bought the wrong flex plate but wend and got the correct plate. Also bought and installed a short water pump while there. Might have a problem though, the dampner is a 8" Might have to buy a 7 1/2" if it does not clear the stearing box. I hope it will clear it!!!! 10/31/00 Everything looking good for install this weekend. All I need now is the TV cable. Looking at the site 700R4.com for the cable and bracket for a Holley 600CFM carb. 10/17/00 Just picked up the 700R4 over the weekend. Very clean. Freash rebuild. HD clutch packs and bearings. Should start moving along with the conversion now. Going to order from JTR the motor/trans brackets next week. Still curently working on sanding and ainting the engine well area. Looking good so far. Pics comming soon! ----------------------------------------------------------- Today I re-routed the vapor canistor line from the drivers side to the passenger side. Also I sanded the battery holder and the whole passenger side fender, primed and painted Yellow. Looks good for a semi quick job. 8/26/00 I took the Scarb type mounts back to PAW after getting the Jags that run V8 conversion book! Best move I have made yet. I read the book at least 2 times, seems like everything is well covered. I was going to put in the TH350 trans but after I read the book I called my trans guy that was building my TH350 and told him I wanted the 700R4. He said no problem just more money.. About $600.00 more. Total cost for trans pro rebuilt will be about $1100.00, that is with new torqe conv flexplate and matching starter.(I needed all 3). --------- I started on the electrical in the engine compartment today. I untaped the harness from the passenger side all the way to the battery holder, seperated the motor wires and marked all the wires where they will be used for the V8 conversion. I'll post some pics here later today. ===================================== 8/17/00 I'm glad I did not sell the Z. I just got a great deal on a brand new Vortec 5.7L V8. Only around 3 hours Dyno time on it. It's a 2000 model. Going to be non FI with a 1984 700R4 trans. Anyhow, so it's going into the Z hopefully within a month or 2. I just bought the Motor mount adapters from PAW and also the Trans bracket adaptor. The Hooker headers (block hugger) are on order. Sunday 8/20/00 pulling the old 6 cyl and trans. I'll keep updating on the conversion process every week. I bought it in Jan 1999. Had some slight rust at the bottom of the doors. The color is GMC's Compition Yellow. I just had it painted 1 year ago! Not 1 door ding on the car. There are some blems in the paint. It's not mint! But sure looks GOOD! There are a few riples in the roof, I did not want to spend the bucks to have them removed, but it does not look bad. Clear headlight covers. Black front plastic air dam. Interior need a lot of work.

The motor

Just broke a valve!!! Runs like crap!!!!!!!!

You want it you buy it!

is a L24 block.. stock with around 10k miles. The head is a e88. Tripple webbers with K+N filters. TWM billet linkage.. works flawless!! The car has "tri-mill" 6-1 headers to NEW 2 1/2" pipe with resonator about 12" back from the collector, then the normal muffler in the rear with a chrome tip. Car sounds great! New fan clutch,Radiator (3core HD for AT). Temp stays right at 185 even in 100deg Los Angeles weather. New Electronic ign (type with module in dist), New chrome 12v HO coil. New vacume booster.

Trans

is a 4spd. Goes great through all gears.. No problem there. There is a tick noise in reverse though. Think it's a bearing. I have never worried about it. Cars are not under a lot of stress in reverse unless you plan on doing a "Rockford Files 180!!)

Inside the car

Autopower 4pt rollbar. Needs carpet, I made a dash cover out of black felt(looks ok). Needs a new ign switch. Temp gauge does not regester. I hooked up a sun gauge for monitoring the temp which is screwed in the drivers side consle. Head liner has a 2" rip. Other than it it's fine. Tach does not work, nor does the speedo and clock. No radio in car.

Tires

There are 14/60/P225's all the way around. 5 slot rims. No center caps.

suspension

The guy I bought it from replaced the lower control arms. I just put on new inside and outside rods, balljoints, poly bushings for the 1 3/4 swaybar. There is a stock rear swaybar.

I just put NEW tie rod ends and EIBACH springs on!! Lowered by 1.5 inch.. Handled much better!

This was taken before the exhaust was redone.

Well just rebuilt the webers.. MUCH better responce from them pups now. Here is a pic of them.

Here is a front shot I just took a few months back.

Here is my old 67 Camaro SS/RS.
